About Us. Then read on to sign the petitions!

We are concerned citizens. We believe that the best values that America represents are being submerged by fear and divisiveness. We are not an angry minority, but a principled majority. And it is not what we are against that is important, it is what we are for.

We stand for inclusivity and diversity and believe that caring for one another, for those less fortunate, for those who are fleeing oppression, for those of different races, creeds and colors is the foundation of America’s greatness. We stand for immigration reform, the protection of voting rights and the protection of our environment. We stand for equal pay for equal work and the right of every person to have access to affordable healthcare. We stand for what we feel are the best of America’s values, and we understand that not all agree. But we believe that only with honest and open dialogue and a willingness to compromise can democracy truly flourish.

Petition to the City of Decatur for a Resolution of Principles

We believe that open and civil discourse is the foundation of our society. We believe we live in a town that aspires to stand for the best principles of America. We are committed to living and being governed by these principles. Therefore we ask our Decatur City Commission to adopt and declare the following as principles of intent in the governance of our town.

We Stand For:

  • Inclusivity and equality regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or disability.
  • Gender equality and equal pay for women.
  • The reform of our immigration system where legal residency is attainable and immigrants are respected.
  • The protection of voting rights and for access to that right to be strengthened by government.
  • Every person's right to access affordable quality healthcare regardless of income.
  • A science and fact-based response to global warming, including increased commitments to alternative and renewable sources of energy.
  • Recognition that protection of our environment must be a continuing priority.
  • Public tax dollars staying within a well funded public education system.
  • Community policing accountable to the community, where the rights of all persons are respected.

We stand knowing that we do not all agree, but that we must learn to accept our differences and find common ground, for with compromise and mutual acceptance democracy can flourish.

We stand for all these principles and we ask our town to stand with us and to adopt these principles as a declaration of conscience and of intent.
